Register nowOwingen, March 2020. One main goal of the New Work megatrend: creating a balance between life and work. Office chair manufacturer Klöber from Owingen has developed an innovative solution for this in the shape of its WOOOM shell chair. The seat shell is made of nonwoven material consisting of recycled polyester fibres, and it’s packed full of modern technology. For example a USB port, providing a power source for digital natives to charge their phones.
One thing is certain – the workplace has been in a state of change for quite some time. Researchers of the future use the term “New Work” to describe this journey – by which they mean the blurring of boundaries between work, leisure and self-realisation. This throws the rational meritocracy into question, people with their needs become the central focus, and there is a call for new – agile – forms of cooperation.
An armchair for new work requirements
WOOOM is designed for informal meetings and creative teamwork. If rigid hierarchies, fixed workstations and a “nine-to-five mentality” characterise the old-style working environment, then WOOOM offers the perfect counterpoint to that.
The seat shell is made from nonwoven material (a percentage of which is made of recycled PET bottles), with slender contours and a cantilever structure. Unlike fixed workstations, a WOOOM can be positioned flexibly. With its understated styling, reduced volume and muted colours, it is designed to blend in with its surroundings. As a result it goes well in lounges, studies, living rooms and coworking spaces. It incorporates a rechargeable battery as well as an optional writing tablet – and it can be positioned anywhere you like – regardless of local features such as plug sockets and desks.
Desk and retreat zone in one
And what about the traditional demarcation between working hours and leisure? It's simple: WOOOM brings both of these together, because it’s a fully-equipped workstation and a homely reading chair all in one – with luxury upholstery and a comfortable reclining position. The colour temperature of the integral LED reading light is infinitely variable: from warm white for a pleasant atmosphere to cool white for situations in which alertness is critical. The lamp is positioned above shoulder height, where it can illuminate the working area optimally without casting unwanted shadows. At the same time the LED modules are set deep into the backrest to avoid dazzle. Furthermore, WOOOM enhances the quality of your working and relaxation experience thanks to a 3-zone massage function in the backrest and a heating function in the backrest and seat. Both functions are individually adjustable.
Connectivity and communication
While we’re on the subject of New Work, one thing’s essential: an increasing capacity for networking. In future, work will relocate to a virtual space. New solutions are being created for heterogeneous, networked teams. That’s why WOOOM supports digital networking of people – thanks to its integral USB-2 port, a writing tablet to accommodate laptop and phone, and a shielded zone for private conversation. WOOOM takes the networking principle even further: the chair can be connected to its occupant’s phone. This allows all its digital functions, such as light, seat heating and massage function, to be controlled conveniently via an app. In addition, this shell chair defines inviting, open and creative working environments. Ideal for small teams using an agile approach to work out new solutions.
