On the way to the energy-neutral office - The Dutch government tests the Klimastuhl by Klöber

An existing building owned by the Rijkswaterstaat in Rijswijk was selected as a test environment.
Innovation in the office: with the Klöber Klimastuhl, every employee at every desk can select their own personal comfort temperature.
The “heating” and “ventilation” functions have two convenient adjustment settings. The controls are on the side of the chair and are intuitive to use.
A total of 13 Klimastuhl chairs are involved in the test.

Owingen, October 2017 I The Dutch Central Government Real Estate Agency is investing in sustainable innovations to achieve the energy-neutral office. A test environment has been set up in Rijswijk for this purpose with the goal to realise a practical example for the transition to energy-neutral buildings. The first office chair with a patented climate function from Klöber is in on the action.

The EU proposes that all new buildings should be energy-neutral by 2021. This ruling applies to government buildings from 2019. So the Dutch Rijksvastgoedbedrijf is currently building a test environment in Rijswijk, to demonstrate that an energy-neutral office is possible. Various sustainable systems are being tested for applicability in the selected test building belonging to the Rijkswaterstaat (Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment) – including lighting and climate control, as well as information and communication technology.  One of these is the Klöber Klimastuhl. With this world innovation you can control the temperature at your desk whilst reducing energy consumption at the same time. “We are delighted that the innovative concept of the Klöber Klimastuhl has impressed the Netherlands government, and that they are now testing it”, says Ralf Johow, Sales & Marketing Director at Klöber. In all, 13 chairs are being used and the test will last three years.

Innovation Klimastuhl

The Klimastuhl adapts its temperature to the user’s needs like a car seat – it’s so easy, all at the touch of a button. There are two functions: the body contact points in the seat and back area are warmed to a maximum temperature of 37 degrees with the heating function. The ventilation function has a pleasant cooling effect – the excess heat is diverted away from the body. The result is a positive effect on energy consumption and costs: as the temperature is transferred directly to the body, having the heating and ventilation function in the office chair is much more efficient than controlling the room temperature. If the room temperature is lowered for instance by just 1 degree during the heating phase, heating costs can be reduced by 6 per cent. And in the summer, raising the temperature of the air conditioning settings by 1 degree can save around 4% in electricity consumption (depending on the type of building).
