Preserving history, shaping the future

Hengelo in the Netherlands is a major industrial city in the Twente region.
As the city hall there was only completed in 1963 and is therefore a relatively new building, the focus of restoration in 2020 was on preserving as many existing elements as possible.

Renovation of the city hall council chamber turned out to be the most difficult part of the entire process, as Mayor Sander Schelberg observed later. The hall needed to be functional, compliant with current standards – and of course retain many of the existing elements. Here in Hengelo, where history meets future, the city hall council chamber has been equipped with state-of-the-art audio and video technology. Wireless charging points for mobile phones have been integrated into the design, which features carpentry by KP Interieur.
The restoration of the city hall council chamber went according to plan. “We managed to preserve existing features and add modern ones,” said Mark Vrugteveen, Project Leader Facility Services for the municipality of Hengelo, who was thrilled with the result.

History is being made – on Klöber Moteo chairs

Meanwhile Klöber was responsible for another aspect of outfitting in the historical city hall council chamber. In total, 49 Moteo Perfect chairs were supplied to the Hengelo project: 45 conference chairs, 3 office swivel chairs and a highback boardroom chair.
