Mera Klimastuhl task chair

Designer: Jörg Bernauer

Temperature at work has an effect on productivity. Exposure to heat or cold puts the body under strain and it is proven that this causes employee performance to deteriorate. However while women are frequently freezing cold, men often feel too hot – which makes it difficult to find a compromise, especially in open space offices. Thanks to the Klöber Klimastuhl®, you can set the optimum working temperature for own personal comfort.

Applications

The Dutch government tests the Klimastuhl by Klöber

The Dutch Central Government Real Estate Agency is investing in sustainable innovations to achieve the energy-neutral office. A test environment has been set up in Rijswijk for this purpose with the goal to realise a practical example for the transition to energy-neutral buildings. The first office chair with a patented climate function from Klöber is in on the action.

Why are women always freezing cold and why are men always too hot?

Every room has something known as a general macroclimate. It is caused by centrally-controlled influences such as heating and air conditioning, by ventilation through opening windows or sunlight. The macroclimate may also be unavoidable to a certain extent, because architecture, infrastructure or office use present problematic conditions. It may also be created artificially and deliberately, for instance because work needs to be carried out under specified temperature conditions.   Men and women have a very different perception of temperature. For this reason the room temperature is always going to be a compromise. The unique Klöber Klimastuhl® solves the problem!

Why every office should have the Klimastuhl!

  • Individual temperature control for your personal well-being
  • Improves comfort
  • Increases productivity
  • Decreases error rate
  • Ensures a good eco-balance thanks to energy-saving potential

The Klimastuhl helps to counter the top complaints in the office

The room climate and  temperature at work are the main causes for complaint in the office, according to the results of IFMA studies made between 1991 – 2009. The room climate is the second-most frequently cited cause for complaint in the office after physical problems according to the Investitionsstudie Büro 2014/2015 (Investment Study Office 2014/2015). One person’s too hot, another’s too cold. The option of defining the “correct” temperature yourself is a key factor in feeling comfortable at work. The Klöber Klimastuhl makes this possible: every employee can regulate the temperature wherever they sit, selecting their own personal heating preferences. Flexible, any time. And just as they like it.

Uniquely innovative

On a long journey you can switch on the seat heating or ventilation to provide comfort you wouldn’t want to be without. In the Klimastuhl, Klöber has optimised this comfort feature for the office professional’s day-to-day life. The heating function warms to a maximum of 37°C. This is equivalent to the body temperature of a healthy human being. The ventilation function conducts surplus heat away from the body, as well as allowing up to 95% of moisture to evaporate from the seat and up to 74% from the backrest. The intelligent “seat occupancy sensor” switches the climate function off automatically to save energy when the user stands up.

Saving energy – reducing costs

In an era of rising energy costs, growing awareness of climate protection and conservation of resources, energy management is becoming an increasingly important theme for companies. In this context, heating and air conditioning certainly rank amongst the main cost drivers, alongside electricity for office equipment and lighting. Yet the potential for savings is enormous.

Science meets product development. The result: the Klöber Klimastuhl

At Klöber we close ranks with science every single day. It’s the only way Klöber can be sure to keep exploring new channels, as well as moving with the times – and the only way to create really good products. To achieve this it’s essential to think out of the box and be open to teaching and research findings, as well as having an interest in new subject areas.

Studies prove the positive effect of the Klimastuhl

The climate study, which was conducted as a field study in the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Kaiserslautern, clearly demonstrates: an office chair with a climate function has a significant influence on the thermal experience at work.

The temperature at work is a key variable for productivity. Extremes of heat or cold have a stressful effect on the body and make us less efficient. An optimum temperature in the office helps to enhance people’s comfort and performance and decrease the error rate according to studies carried out at Cornell University. In a study by Berkeley University, 23 test candidates underwent 69 tests each lasting 2.25h on an office chair with climate function, to find out at what room temperatures the test candidates were still in their “thermal comfort zone” when they activated a heating or ventilation function on their chair – and were therefore able to continue working productively as demonstrated in the Cornell study. The result is convincing: On average 90% of test candidates for whom the room temperatures were within the range of 18° - 29° and who had access to a heating and ventilation function on their chair were within a thermal comfort range.

The Klöber Klimastuhl is making its world debut in a test project at the AXA Group in France

The required profile: new workstation concepts and innovative furnishing solutions for the initial set-up of a test zone for flexible working within a test project.
