Trade media: the Klöber Klimastuhl ensures that you have the perfect climate for comfort in the office

05.04.2016

Owingen, March 2016 | One person’s too hot, another’s too cold – the room climate is one of the top ten causes for complaint in the office. In particular, men and women also have a very different perception of temperature. The Owingen-based seating manufacturer has found an innovative solution to this problem in the form of the new Klöber Klimastuhl: with the “heating” and “ventilation” functions on every chair, employees can set their own personal temperature for optimum wellbeing. This improves comfort at work, increases productivity and at the same time has a positive influence on energy consumption and costs.

There’s always a general macroclimate in the office. It’s primarily caused by influences that are controlled centrally, such as heating, air-conditioning, window ventilation and direct sunlight – but it can also depend on the building structure. I So it is only possible to influence this macroclimate to a certain extent – and everyone has a different perception of the ideal temperature at work. For this reason the room temperature is always going to be a compromise.

Comfort climate for everyone

Now with the Klöber Klimastuhl, each user can actively control the temperature: the heating and ventilation functions are integrated in the seat and backrest, and each has two adjustment settings. The heating function warms the body contact surfaces through the seat and back up to a maximum of 37 degrees – normal human body temperature. The ventilation system conducts excess heat away from the body, as well as allowing up to 95% of moisture from the seat and up to 74% from the backrest to evaporate, which produces a pleasant cooling sensation.

Increases productivity

There are clear specifications regarding the temperature in offices: it should be a minimum of 20 °C but not exceed 26 °C. However these guidelines do not take into account the fact that individuals perceive temperature differently. Yet the temperature at work has a major influence on productivity – researchers at the Cornell University in America have found this to be true: if the temperature is too high or too low, the body is under additional stress, which reduces efficiency. An optimum temperature is an essential prerequisite to make sure that employees feel comfortable, work more productively and have a lower error rate at work.

Saving energy, reducing costs

The Klöber Klimastuhl also helps to save heating and energy costs. As the temperature is transferred directly to the body, having the heating and ventilation function in the office chair is much more efficient than controlling the room temperature. If the room temperature is lowered for instance by just 1 degree during the heating period, heating costs can be reduced by 6 per cent. And in the summer, raising the temperature of the air conditioning settings by 1 degree can save around 4% of electrical energy (depending on the type of building).

Technical details:
