Register nowThe Mera ESD task chair (mer98 and mer98k) meets ESD protection requirements. It is suitable for use in electrostatically protected areas (EPA) as specified by DIN EN 61340-5-1 VDE 0300-5-1:2017-07. The construction and materials used for the Mera ESD (mer98 and mer98k) conduct electrostatic charges through the upholstery, armrests and back via the mechanism, gas spring and star base down to the ground.
You know what it’s like: that sudden jolt of electricity through your hand when you touch something metal. This happens when your body becomes statically charged by friction, for example when you walk on a carpet, and then rapidly discharges.
This abrupt electrostatic discharge – ESD for short – is potentially dangerous. For instance it can damage sensitive electronic components that are being manufactured or processed. The solution: the Mera ESD office chair model (mer98 and mer98k).
The ESD specification of the Klöber Mera task chair provides protection from harmful electrostatic discharge. Two strategies are in action here: firstly the contact surfaces are conductive thanks to special upholstery fabrics, paint and materials. This prevents the user from accumulating a static charge. Secondly the Mera ESD earths any electrical charge by conducting it away slowly through the entire structure of the chair. It’s important that the antistatic chair is used with a suitable – i.e. conductive – floor covering.
The Mera ESD specification is the first office chair i´ve tested that also has conductive armrest and back.

Every ESD chair is tested before shipping. A test voltage of 100 V is used to measure the conductive resistance of every potential contact surface. The result is recorded in the test report provided with every chair.
