Top-class design, top-class award. Connex2 by Klöber receives the German Design Award 2018.

26.10.2017

Being honoured with the German Design Award in the “Winner” category for Office Furniture recognises the exceptional product design that has gone into the Connex2 task chair by Klöber.

Owingen, October 2017. What are the trailblazing design trends and who are their creators? The premium German Design Award jury answers this question in the form of a very special award: its winners are innovative products that stand out in the categories of product and communication design. The Connex2 task chair from Klöber proved popular with the jury, receiving “Winner” in the German Design Award 2018 Office Furniture category.

As a premium international prize sponsored by the German Design Council, the German Design Award pursues one goal: to identify, present and recognise exceptional design trends. So every year awards are given to a selection of remarkable design projects in the product and communication fields, each blazing their own trail through the international design landscape. The competition has extremely high expectations when it comes to picking its prize-winners: thanks to a unique nomination process, they only invite entries from products and communication design services if they are already proven to be outstanding in design quality. This is also true for Connex2 from Klöber: it won favour with the jury in terms of ergonomics, function and aesthetics.

Excellent design

Jörg Bernauer, Klöber’s in-house designer, is responsible for the design of Connex2. It is primarily characterised by its clear lines. One distinctive feature is the central aluminium element of the backrest support: “It connects the back and armrest with the chair as a whole, like a belt. The overall impression is reminiscent of the ring armrest archetype. The adjustment functions are incorporated seamlessly into the form of the armrest, which is an especially attractive touch”, says Jörg Bernauer. The armrests are integral to the chair and therefore an effective eye-catcher that adds value. At the same time they offer outstanding comfort: the armrest tops maintain constant contact with the forearms as the sitter reclines. The colour-coded controls are a further visual highlight.

Being honoured with the German Design Award in the Office Furniture category recognises the exceptional product design that has gone into the Connex2 task chair by Klöber. The award ceremony will take place in February 2018 in Frankfurt am Main.
