The distinctive geometry with large white-framed rectangles is symbolic of the logic and consistency that exemplify the leading manufacturer of oncological preparations. PSP Architekten Ingenieure have designed the new headquarters of medac GmbH in Wedel as an elongated reinforced concrete skeleton structure opening out on the top two floors with an all-round roof terrace.

The cubes floating above ground on the two short sides are a surprise element. This is where the pharmaceutical company holds meetings and decides on worldwide developments. The building has 4,000 square metres of floor space on three storeys and a basement with underground car park. Large glazed surfaces provide a transparent view of the surrounding area. Oversized white brackets appear to hold the building together.

The interior is kept open by means of ceiling-high glass partitions. Red walls mark the communications and relaxation areas in the centre of each floor. There is also a coffee bar where staff can meet and chat.

At the airy top of the building the view extends as far as the Elbe. It is here that decisions are made on the company’s future, and particular sensitivity was therefore required in the interior design. The furnishing is provided by Klöber with its Orbit Network conference swivel chairs. In line with the pharmaceutical company’s philosophy, these seats have an ergonomic backrest with flexible mesh for healthy posture. And the design matches the architecture of the façade.
