The Oeco-Tex Standard 100 test and certification system aims towards the manufacture of all kinds of textile products that are harmless with regard to human ecology and was developed in response to consumer needs for textiles that do not damage health. On this basis, upholstery fabrics that are certified to the Eco-Tex Standard 100 fulfil high standards, for instance with respect to
  • Adhering to pre-defined limits for substances that are damaging to health (e.g. formaldehyde, pesticides in native fibres, organic tin compounds)
  • Excluding certain dyes (e.g. any that are categorised as carcinogenic or allergenic, or dyes with free acrylamides)
  • Only using biologically active or flame-retardant products that are approved by Oeco-Tex
  • Testing of saliva, perspiration, friction and waterproofing
  • Odour testing
  • Internal quality control
